In Chapter 5 of the Śūraṅgama Sūtra, among the twenty-five who attest perfect awakening, Youth Xiangyan tells how he contemplated the scent of sandalwood until “odor and stench both relinquished,” attaining the “Fragrant-Strict” seal.
