Six Projects Signed Across the Value Chain

According to the Hainan Provincial People's Government website and People's Daily Online Hainan channel, on 1 November 2026 the "Chengmai Fragrance · Fragrant World" agarwood investment conference was held as a key session of the 2026 Chengmai International Economic and Trade Fair. Six agarwood projects were signed on site, spanning credit facilities, standardized planting, deep processing, warehousing and logistics, whole-industry-chain development, and wellness tourism. Officials from the Hainan Provincial Forestry Bureau noted that agarwood is a priority specialty forestry industry for the province, and that leveraging free trade port policies Hainan is systematically improving its standards, traceability and authentication, and brand systems, while planning an international agarwood trading center to turn agarwood from a niche incense product into a pillar industry for rural revitalization.

36,000 mu of Plantations and a "One Tree, One Code" Trust Chain

Chengmai County reported 36,000 mu (about 2,400 hectares) of agarwood plantations, along with a series of firsts: the world's first agarwood industry college, China's first agarwood price index, and the province's first agarwood old-tree theme park. Support policies include planting subsidies, a RMB 2 billion dedicated credit line, and comprehensive agarwood insurance. On the trust infrastructure side, participating companies proposed building a "Chengmai Agarwood Trusted Industry Brain" based on "one tree, one code; one chain, one trust; one brain, one industry" — using RFID electronic tree tags to create a "tree-rights code" that dynamically archives species, tree age, tending records and ownership, with verification and evidence storage at key nodes. At the transaction stage, the government assigns each grower a unified "one entity, one code," which combined with smart traceability scales links farmer information, tree-rights codes and harvest batches. A representative of the China Certification & Inspection Group South China regional headquarters described Chengmai's current stage as "growing pains": weak brand recognition, insufficient transmission of quality trust, and under-realized value of fine material — arguing that standards must define brand value, and that independent third-party auditing, testing and full-process data traceability amount to a globally accepted "credit passport" for the product.
