Progress: main structure completes in late October, handover in mid-December

According to the project team, the Yulin International Spice Exhibition Centre and Agarwood Trading Market has a total floor area of over 40,000 square metres. Since construction started on 23 August 2026, more than 6,000 square metres of basement works have been completed, and the focus has shifted to above-ground prefabricated main-structure hoisting. The project lead said two above-ground floors are currently being hoisted, with the main structure scheduled for completion by end-October; of the 10,000 square metres of retail space, three blocks are due to top out by end-October and another three around November, with full handover planned for mid-December.

Positioning: permanent home of the Spice Expo with full-chain services

The project is a key origin-market platform jointly built by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It serves as the permanent venue of the Yulin Spice Expo, aiming to create an 'expo that never closes' and to build a modern operating system combining policy, exhibition and digital capabilities. Once operational it will integrate exhibition matchmaking, standardised warehouse custody, authoritative incense testing and traceability, supply-chain finance and precise production-sales matching. Unlike traditional markets that rely on leasing alone, it pursues online-offline integration: offline through forums, trade matchmaking and wellness-tourism events, and online through a dedicated agarwood live-commerce base spanning short video and livestream retail.

Agarwood trading has long faced a paradox of 'a market without pricing, pricing without standards': scattered origins, inconsistent grade definitions, and weak warehousing and traceability make stable pricing of bulk raw material difficult. The value of such an origin-market platform lies in placing testing and traceability, standardised warehousing and supply-chain finance in the same physical space, closing the loop across goods, certificates, warehouse and capital. For smaller merchants, whether transaction costs truly fall depends on the accreditation credibility of testing bodies and whether traceability data can be independently verified.
