Third International Agarwood and Huanghuali Trade Fair Opens in Haikou in November with 50,000 sqm of Exhibition Space

Scale and Positioning: From a Single-Material Fair to an Integrated Collecting Platform

Jointly organised by the Hainan Daily Press Group and the China Collectors Association, the fair covers 50,000 square metres, with overall scale and category quality comprehensively upgraded versus the previous two editions. Built around agarwood, huanghuali and jiangzhenxiang, it extends into scholar's rocks, jewellery and jade, ceramics, tea and coffee, and cultural-creative products, forming an integrated platform for exhibition and trading, authentication and appraisal, industry matchmaking and cultural experience, while leveraging Hainan Free Trade Port advantages to link domestic production areas with global commercial resources. For both collectors and consumers, the introduction of authentication and appraisal deserves particular attention: it moves pricing away from closed circles and personal experience towards reviewable third-party opinion.

Consumption Moves Downstream: Agarwood Cultural Products Enter Daily Urban Life

Parallel to the mega-fair is the downstream shift of consumption scenarios. On 11 October, Hainan-rooted agarwood culture brand Tinghai Xiangtang opened its first urban store at the Westin Haikou, marking the move of Hainan agarwood cultural-creative products from exhibition gifting into everyday mass consumption. Drawing on local Hainan agarwood resources and traditional auspicious patterns, the brand embeds blessing symbolism into objects, producing cultural-tourism souvenirs that are both decorative and functional. In the same period, the "Nanyaoxiangdu" marketing centre opened in Dianbai, Maoming during the National Day holiday, carrying the upgrade of the South-medicine and agarwood industry under a 4.0 industry-city integration model - Guanzhu town in Dianbai hosts thousands of businesses and over 150,000 mu of agarwood plantation, making it one of the world's core clusters for cultivated agarwood and raw-material trading. Exhibition, urban retail and production areas advancing together is the most distinctive feature of this year's sector.

Notes for Buyers and Visitors

The attention generated by fairs and flagship stores also tends to attract imitations and exaggerated claims. Both agarwood and huanghuali are high-value, regulated species: cross-border circulation must comply with CITES and China's endangered species import-export rules, and buyers should verify origin certificates and permits. Be cautious with terms such as "qinan", "wild" or "century-old material", which are widely abused in the market. When judging value for money, resin content, aromatic layering, origin and testability matter more than a good story. Prefer merchants who can provide third-party laboratory reports and traceability to a specific production area and business entity, and keep transaction records.
