Check Which Industry the Standard Number on a Test Report Belongs To

A common situation in the industry: someone brings a test report and asks which standard the stated basis actually refers to.

Here is a path you can use to verify it yourself.

First, check which level the number belongs to

Searching for "agarwood" in the National Standards Full-Text Public System (openstd.samr.gov.cn) returns 0 results—there is no national standard for agarwood.
But that does not mean agarwood has no standards, because industry standards and local standards are not in this system.

Currently, the following four sets govern agarwood:

The first two are issued by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the latter two are Hainan provincial local standards; all are currently valid.

One thing worth mentioning

Put plainly, the three "agarwood national standard" numbers most frequently cited on the market actually belong to three completely different industries after verification:

GB/T 29665-2013 is for skin care lotions; GB/T 34775-2017 is a method for determining the flowability of pesticide water-dispersible granules; GB/T 34796-2017 is for detection of nucleic acid concentration and purity in aqueous solutions.

All three are real numbers, and standard information can be found for all of them. The problem is not whether the numbers are real, but what they belong to.

If the standard basis of a report does not fall within the above four sets, then the report is not testing agarwood—no matter how legitimate the testing institution is, that does not change this.

Verification path

Copy the number in the "test basis" field of the report → for national standards, go to openstd.samr.gov.cn; for industry and local standards, go to std.samr.gov.cn → check whether the name contains "agarwood."

A reminder for testing peers: in the standard basis field of the report, it is recommended to write the standard number in full and include the year. Omitting the year makes it impossible for readers to determine which version it is; omitting the standard number makes the report basically impossible to verify.
