Raw smell
No heating—just sniff the wood or beads. Best for high-oil material with obvious room-temperature scent.
Burning
Directly lights sticks or powder; fast, wide diffusion, good for ambience but harsher on delicate notes.
Indirect heating
Carbon heats the wood through a mica/silver leaf—slowly reveals clear-sweet-cool-floral layers; the classic xiangxi method.
